Daniel Ridenhour

Daniel Ridenhour was named head men's soccer coach on Dec. 17, 2015 after completing his 12th season on the coaching staff, including the previous seven years as associate head coach. He came to Winthrop after spending three seasons at Georgia State as an assistant coach. Ridenhour succeeded Rich Posipanko, who retired after 27 years at the Winthrop helm.

During his time with the Eagles, Ridenhour was instrumental to the program capturing four Big South Conference championships and making five trips to the NCAA College Cup.

While at Georgia State he worked as an assistant coach for the Georgia Boys Olympic Development Program. His 87 Georgia ODP State team won the 2004 ODP Region Championship and went to National Championship in 2005. In addition he was a staff coach for the Forsyth Fusion Club as he trained teams and also provided assistance to club coaches. In 2004 he completed his Master of Science in Sport Administration at Georgia State.

Before he spent three years in the Atlanta, GA area, Ridenhour was a staff coach and U-14 coordinator for Chesapeake Soccer Club for two seasons and a staff coach for the U-16 and technical coach for Beach FC for two seasons as well.

Ridenhour played his college soccer at Old Dominion University. He was a four-year letterman and a team captain in 2000. While at ODU he was a student-athlete mentor and part of the student athlete advisory council. He attended the 2000 NCAA Leadership Conference on behalf of ODU. He also played for the U.S. Youth Soccer Region III team. He was a team member for three seasons and was a pool member for five. He graduated from ODU in December of 2000 with a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Sport Management and a minor in Business Management.

Besides coaching soccer, Ridenhour has volunteered for several different events including the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Four, NBA All-Star Weekend, Special Olympics and the American Heart Association-Club Red Gala.

Ridenhour continues to improve his coaching education by attending numerous clinics and coaching schools throughout the year. He also holds a USSF “A” Coaching License.

He is married to Emily and resides in Rock Hill, SC with their two daughters, Phoebe and Winnie Alewine, and sons Paco Roo and Captain.

Zane Barnes

Zane Barnes has been named as the assistant men’s soccer coach at Winthrop University. Barnes comes to Rock Hill after spending the past two seasons as the Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Northeast Texas Community College.

At NTCC, he helped both programs to significant improvement in his two seasons and also instrumental in developing players to the next level.

Coach Ridenhour on the appointment, “It is great to have Zane and Katie join the Eagle family here in Rock Hill. He has been successful at each stop in his coaching journey. He has a great passion for teaching and getting the most out of players. Our ideas and philosophy on building a team and young men of high character is something which really stood out.”

He served as the Head Girls Coach at Atascocita High School from 2017-2020 prior to NTCC. He left Atascocita with an overall record of 54-8-11 and a trip to the Regional Tournament, the program's second.

Coach Barnes also served as the Assistant Men’s Coach for the Brazos Valley Cavalry FC which competes in USL League 2, a development league for players globally.

Prior to Atascocita, Barnes spent 2015-17 as the Head Girls Coach at Pine Tree High School, in Longview, Texas.

Barnes also brings prior college coaching experience. He served as the Assistant Coach to both the Men’s and Women’s teams for two seasons at his alma mater, East Texas Baptist University from 2013-2015.

He has also been involved in the youth game on both the boys and girls sides. He has had stints at FC Dallas, Dallas Texans, and Challenge Soccer Club. He is currently serving as the 03 Boys Head Coach of the South Texas Olympic Development Program.

Barnes played his collegiate career at East Texas Baptist University (2006-2010). During that time, he was a 4-year starter in goal for the Tigers, gaining two All-ASC selections and ending his career 2nd All-time in saves.

A native of Lufkin, Texas, Barnes received his Bachelor of Science degree from ETBU in 2010 and went on to earn his MBA in Sports Management and Administration from University of the Southwest (2015). He holds a USSF National “B” License and NSCAA Goalkeeper 1, 2, and 3 Licenses. He is currently enrolled in the US Soccer Coaching Instructor Course. Barnes is joined with his wife Katie, and their dogs, Kallie and Dexter.
