The Bethany College Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Dane Straight has been named the next Head Men's Soccer Coach.

"We are excited to welcome Dane Straight as the Head Men's Soccer Coach! Coach Straight's soccer coaching experience, familiarity with Bethany as an alum and as someone who has worked on campus, and his passion and commitment to the institution make him a tremendous fit for the Swedes! His ability to connect with students, build relationships, and promote holistic development while fostering a healthy competitive environment will make an immediate impact within the program. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Coach Straight in his new role, and look forward to seeing the men's soccer program continue to grow and develop!" said Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno.

This head coach position became open due to previous Head Coach Papa Assane Ndiaye resigning on March 6, 2023 due to personal reasons.

Coach Straight has plenty of coaching experience at the collegiate level. Most recently, in 2017, Dane was the Head Coach for Women's Soccer at Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kansas for 9 years. While at Cowley, Coach Straight coached 29 All-KJCCC athletes, 34 Academic All-KJCCC recipients, 2 Capital One Academic All-District recipients, 1 KJCCC Freshman of the Year, 2 All-American athletes, and 1 NJCAA All-Academic Team recipient. Before accepting the head job at Cowley, Dane was the assistant coach for both Men's and Women's Soccer.

Before making his way to Cowley, Coach Straight was the Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach and Assistant to the Fitness Center Director at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas. While at Cloud, Dane coached 2 team Academic All-Americans for the women and 2 All-Conference & All-Region selections on the men's side including a NJCAA All-American.

Dane Straight also has coaching experience in the KCAC as he was the Head Women's Soccer Coach at McPherson College from 1999-2001 where he coached 3 NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes and 1 All-KCAC Player.

Before coaching at McPherson, Dane was a Volunteer Assistant Soccer Coach here at Bethany College from 1996 – 1999 initially as a student.

Newly-named Head Coach Dane Straight on his new position: "Honestly, words can't even begin to describe how thrilled I am to have the opportunity to lead this program. I'm not sure the smile has left my face since I was offered the position. Since I began my coaching career here in 1996 as a student assistant, this is the one place I have always wanted to coach. I am truly humbled to have this opportunity to give to this team, institution, and community just a little of what I received in my time here as a student-athlete since I was on the inaugural team back in 1992. I want to thank Laura Moreno, the administration, and the search committee for allowing me to pursue my dream job. I look forward to working with the players and recruits right away, as well as reconnecting with the alumni to establish this program as one of the best in the conference."

Straight received his Bachelor's in Biology and Chemistry from Bethany College in 1997 where he graduated Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.62.
