Ed Matz

In his second season at the helm of Assumption soccer, the Hounds produced a 7-5-4 record while going 5-3-3 in conference. They did not lose a game at home, going 4-0-4. Assumption's game was built around a strong defense and fast energetic goalscorer up top. After being projected to finish towards the bottom of the conference, the Hounds earned the #3 seed and hosted a playoff game. They fell to Adelphi University on penalties after being tied at 2-2.


Matz comes to Assumption with over 25 years of head soccer coaching experience at the Division I level. Ed Matz was named the Assumption University head men's soccer coach in May of 2021. In his first year at the helm of the program, Matz and the Hounds posted a 3-11-2 record while going 3-8-1 in conference.

AWARDS


Throughout his many years of coaching, Matz took teams of both genders to the NCAA Tournament, won conference championships, and was named conference coach of the year on numerous occasions. He coached many All-Conference players, All-Americans, and athletes that have gone on to play professionally.


PERSONAL


Matz currently resides in Longmeadow, Mass. Matz' daughter plays for the Assumption Women's soccer team


As the founder of the athletic program at Wheelock College, Matz held the role as Director of Athletics and Recreation for 11 years.


He currently serves as the president and owner of All in College Sports Inc. and is the Director of Coaching at Rush Soccer Club in the Massachusetts West Region.
